Preparing your regular telephone jacks

Prepare your regular telephone jacks by installing DSL filters. Before you can use your DSL service reliably, you need to install filters on your regular telephone jacks in order to prevent voice and fax calls from interfering with the DSL signal.

  1. Unplug the telephone or fax from the phone jack
  2. Plug the DSL filter into the phone jack
  3. Plug the telephone or fax into the the telephone side of the filter
  • Repeat these steps for every telephone in your house.

Connecting your ADSL modem

The ADSL modem acts as the interface between your home network or computer and the DSL service. Your ADSL/VDSL modem has 1 telephone port, 1 Ethernet port and 1 power connection.

  1. The ADSL modem should be connected to an unfiltered telephone plug.
  2. Connect the power pack cord to the modem and make sure it turns on.
  3. Connect a Cat-5 network cable to your computer’s ethernet port.
  • Some modems my require a crossover ethernet cable in order to connect to a network hub or switch. Make sure the LAN light turns on when you connect to the ethernet port.
Once all connections have been made, the modem will attempt to lock on to the DSL signal (i.e. synchronize or sync). When the DSL link light turns steady, the router has successfully connected.
